Kindred Restructure
Fort Mill, South Carolina
July 16, 2011
8 players
2R + F
There were 8 players that ended up in Fort Mill, South Carolina on Saturday the 16th of July. Two lived close by in Charlotte, three made the trek from Charleston, and three made the trek from Atlanta. As it was an eight player tournament, multi-deck, multi-judge rules were used.
Entering the finals:
Jeff Brandon 1 GW 6 VPs
Jeff Thompson 0 GW 3.5 VPs
Jordan Beall 0 GW 2 VPs
Jose Lafuente 0 GW 2 VPs
Mike Perlman 0 GW 0.5 VPs
Marijane was just out of the finals, tied with Mike, separated only by a few tournament points. Being on a table with a sweep that goes to another player is better than being on a table that has two players split the victory points. Food for thought.
Finals results:
Jeff Thompson 1 GW 4 VPs
Mike Perlman 0 GW 1 VP
Round one:
In the first round, I played an untested deck that is called Eye Prime. The eleven copies of Eye of Unforgiving Heaven meant that there were always vampires in torpor all around me, but my absence of vote lock meant that the Chantry was able to save the Tremere way too many times.
(0.5) The Unnammed + Santaleous bled
(0.5) Etrius + Spiridonas + Blythe Candeleria bled
(1.5) Uriel + Dela Eden + Aredhel + Anarch Convert bled
(0.0) Hermanas (large and small) + Angelo
The Blood Brothers were the only ones successfully ousted at this table, though I did have vote lock with Uriel's Bishop vote in the closing minute of the game and Etrius did get himself diablerized. Another 10 minutes could probably have seen a sweep, as the Salubri Antitribu were the only ones gaining blood and having more than 1 blood. Both the Tremere and Salubri Antitribu deck were down to the cards in their hands and in play. Santaleous the Famous was in torpor as well.
Round one second table:
(0) The Hordes bled
(0) Tariq and friends bled
(2) Imbued bled
(2) Ventrue Antitribu
Ventrue Antitribu get 2 VP, Imbued get 2 VP. Finished probably half an hour before time.
Round two:
This round saw the Brujah Antitribu have vote lock throughout the game with Armin Brenner being the only titled vampire for most of the game, with a single bishop controlled by his prey near the end. Black Forest Base/Creepshow Casino also made a very significant difference for the Brujah Antitribu, resulting in three pool gain per turn for 3-4 turns in a row before the Bowl of Convergence put an end to that nonsense. :) Azrael hunted for 4 (Perfectly) for most every turn of the game, except the very last one, when he was one of 7 vampires to bleed for one. Smiling Jack took the last 5 pool off the table.
(2) Brujah Antitribu weenies + Armin Brenner bled
(0) Tremere Antitribu + Succubus bled
(0) The Unnammed + Santaleous bled
(2) Azrael + almost entire crypt (only Kestrelle Hayes was unable to be found)
Round two second table:
(0) Tremere bled
(4) Samedi / Baron + Reanimated Corpses bled
(0) Lucian the Perfect using Brutal Influence bled
(0) Hermanas (large and small) + Angelo
This second table finished in less than 40 minutes. Large bleeds were flying all over the place, and no one had significant intercept. Archon Investigation made Lucian go away very early in his career, on a bleed for ~8. consistent bleeds of ~6 per turn from the Samedi let them work their way steadily and quickly all the way around the table.
Finals:
(1) Toreador Triple A bled
(0) Uta Kovacs Rush bled
(0) Ian Forestal + Rafaele Giovanni + Anarchy bled
(4) Nosferatu Antitribu Vote bled
(0) Zygodat Slaughterhouse
Games like this show the true power of the value of seating. Jeff B. made the mistake of choosing to sit as the prey of the one rush deck, as his vampires were always empty or in torpor, or on one blood and tapped from having to hunt. This absence of pressure allowed the Nosferatu Antitribu to build up uncontested and to control the voting situation. An Anarchist Uprising that would have ousted the Uta Kovacs and Ian Forestal decks at the same time was a victim of
Delaying Tactics. Banishment followed up that same turn to ensure that Uta couldn't take revenge on the vote caller, and Anneke + Alexandra's bleeds were finally able to get past Uta's seemingly unlimited Forced Awakenings to oust him. Beast ensured that Anneke would stay tapped for the rest of the game (Toreador Grand Ball) by removing Alexandra and Anson. The double Fame dunk in a single turn ousted the Toreador. The Anarchist Uprising made another appearance once it was down to two players, removing Ian Forestal at last.
